The second season of “House of the Dragon” is premiering on Sunday, and we’re looking forward to the epic battles, over-the-top drama, and—of course—the incredible castles.
If not for all the death and destruction, we’d happily transport ourselves into the “Game of Thrones” universe and claim a room in one of its regal residences.
But maybe life in a castle is still within reach after all. We found five fortresses with serious “House of the Dragon” vibes where you can live right now.
Bonus: Each of these castles is listed for less than $1 million, which is a (relatively) bargain!
So, dear lords and ladies, check out these five surprisingly cost-effective castles—and consider making one of them your happily-ever-after home.
10035 Vista Ridge Dr, Alden, MI
Extra extravagant: This striking home is a sizable 4,922-square feet and sits on an impressive 10-acre lot.
The current layout includes three bedrooms and three bathrooms. (Three more bedrooms and a bath are unfinished.) But what this castle lacks in bedrooms, it makes up for in ceiling height. The 20-foot ceilings are impressive, making the family-friendly kitchen and dining space feel grand and luxurious.
The oversized courtyard with a circular driveway lets you and your guests make a royal entrance.
432 Little Pine Mountain Rd, Jasper, GA
A Disney dream: This romantic castle was built in 2004 by a retired Disney World architect.
The three-bedroom home features a total of five fireplaces as well as a “hidden” tower with a spiral staircase to a meditation room.
The lucky future owners will surely feel like royalty in their main-floor primary suite, which features a luxe bathroom and access to a private courtyard.
150 Castle Ct, Murphy, NC
Cash-making castle: This charming castle could make a wise investment.
This home, sweetly named “Castle of Joy,” has been used as a wedding and event space for years. The venue has four reviews on Wedding Wire, and those happy customers gave it an “excellent” 4.8 out of 5 stars.
The property comes furnished and, as the listing states, “the management is up for sticking around to keep things running smooth.”
The property features three bedrooms, a heart-shaped fish pond, and a “toasty fire pit perfect for s’mores under the stars.” There’s also a barn decorated with fairy lights.
3481 Main St, Chincoteague, VA
Castle by the sea: A castle with a seaside view? Yes, please!
This three-bedroom domicile is located on Chincoteague Island. The exterior appears medieval, but the interior leans more toward its 1995 roots, with lots of wood and white walls.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are due for an update, but it’s all about location, location, location for this castle. And this location with “views galore” even comes with a boatlift and dock.
238 Springmeadow Way, Red Feather Lakes, CO
A pad for a petite prince: Who says castles need to be big?
This 733-square-foot home has just one bedroom and a half-bathroom, making it the smallest castle on our list by far. But it comes with more than 6 acres, so there’s room to build another home (or fortress).
With no shower or bath, this pad wouldn’t do well as a full-time home. However, the listing suggests this property “would make an amazing music/art studio, podcasting home base, mountain hideaway, or a truly unique short-term rental.”
