Ms. Kamla Devi living in Koti village, Rudrparayag district was watering a field when she was attacked by a leopard.
Ms. Devi used a sickle to fight back against the ferocious beast. After about 30 minutes of fighting, the leopard was killed by Ms. Devi, and the woman was also seriously injured and had to be treated at Srinagar Garhwal Base hospital.
Doctor Rakesh Rawat said Ms. Devi suffered a serious wound on her hand and several deep scratches on her body. However, the above injuries are not life-threatening and Ms. Devi is gradually recovering.
“The leopard kept charging at me and I was forced to fight against it. I fought with my sickle and killed it,” Ms. Devi said.
Leopard attacks on people are not too rare in India. In 2009, 9-year-old Priyanshu Joshi fought a leopard with his bare hands to save his sister.
According to the International Organization for Conservation of Nature (WWF), the number of leopard attacks on humans tends to increase because their habitat is becoming increasingly narrowed due to illegal forest exploitation by humans. .
