Home - Mark Twain House

The Mark Twain House is a museum in Hartford, Connecticut. The house was built for renowned American author Samuel Clemens, or Mark Twain as he was better known, who lived there from 1874 to 1891. While living there, he wrote some of his most classic works including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Prince and the Pauper, and Life on the Mississippi. The building was designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter, an architect from New York who built the home in a Victorian Gothic Revival style. Kronenberger & Sons had to piece together what things looked like and where they were placed in 1874. This included replicating original wainscoting, rebuilding cabinets and repairing floors, along with work on the exterior wood, tile and terra cotta, brick, and rebuilding the purple slate roofs. The Mark Twain House is #66000884 on the National Register of Historic Places.
